The remaining 440 Jo-Ann stores will disappear from the map by May 31, as reported by USA Today.

Stores are holding closing down sales – months after the retailer, which has been a staple for decades, filed for bankruptcy.

The filing in January was the second time the company had filed for bankruptcy.

At the time of the bankruptcy filing, Jo-Ann's store portfolio was around 800.

Bosses dramatically closed 255 stores in April.

Chiefs have been preparing to close their last remaining outlets by the end of the month.

Michael Prendergast, the interim CEO, admitted the company had faced complex challenges.

He explained that bosses had no option but to file for bankruptcy.

A company spokesperson said the decision to shutter stores was "difficult."

All Jo-Ann stores are to close by May 31, but some have closed earlier.

Earlier this month, six locations in Oregon closed for good, as reported by The Oregonian.

Bosses warned that stores would remain open until stock ran out.

But, rival retailers have started to try and gain an advantage in the post Jo-Ann retail world.

US braces for '45,000 store closures'

Some 45,000 bricks-and-mortar stores could close in the next five years, experts have warned.

Several major retailers have announced store closures or gone out of business altogether in recent years.

In 2023, chains such as Foot Locker announced plans to close up to 400 outlets by 2026.

While, other well-known retailers like Tuesday Morning and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams filed for bankruptcy in 2023.

Bed Bath & Beyond has closed all of its brick-and-mortar stores and is now an online-only retailer.

The most affected retailers have been clothing, consumer electronics, sporting goods, hobby, book, music, and home furnishing stores since the start of 2019.

UBS has predicted the total number of retail stores will drop by 45k from 958k to 913k.

Despite that, the report says that certain stores should thrive while others decline.

It said retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, and Target, could be among the winners.

Burlington Stores chiefs are reportedly snapping up leases on former Jo-Ann locations, per Fast Company.

Burlington is set to take on the leases from June 1, according to reports.

It's not just Jo-Ann that is in the process of closing down stores.

In December 2024, Party City chiefs announced that the company would be closing all of its locations.

Barry Litwin, the CEO of the company at the time, explained it was the most difficult message he had to convey.

"It's really important for you to know that we've done everything possible that we could to try to avoid this outcome," he admitted.

Macy's chiefs unveiled a plan to shut 150 stores over three years, and Kohl's bosses closed a slew of underperforming locations in April.

The U.S. Sun has reportedly how seven JCPenney stores are to close over the Memorial Day weekend.

Walgreens bosses are in the process of closing 1,200 stores over the next three years.

And, CVS chiefs are closing 900 locations as part of a three-year plan.
