Back in May, she missed five more games due to a quadriceps injury.

The Fever are 3-2 without her but blew a fourth-quarter lead to lose 89-87 against Los Angeles Sparks at the weekend.

Yet they also won a first trophy since 2012 without Clark in the team.

On July 1, the Fever were 74-59 winners against the Minnesota Lynx.

And that led some to suggest the team is better without Clark in it.

ESPN analyst Carolyn Peck commented: “I think that Indiana is even more dangerous when Caitlin Clark doesn’t play because she’s a ball-dominant guard.

“The ball’s in her hands a lot, so you know what you need to try to take away.

“But when you look at Indiana now, they have so many weapons and Kelsey Mitchell is playing out of her mind.”

The team even has even records with and without Clark in the line-up.

With her this season, they are 4-4 while without her they are 5-5.

Clark could be given a minutes restriction during tonight’s game against the Golden State Valkyries with it not known how long she will play for.

And she said during Tuesday practice: “I think its just nice to get back out there and get in the flow of playing with my teammates again.

“And it’s going to be fun to get back out there hopefully and just feel things again.

“I don’t know what type of minutes I’m going to get, what they’ll look like, but just when I’m out there, compete, play hard.

“This is going to be a team that’s moving constantly, so just being aware and active, bring energy.

“It’s obviously hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks, so I’m excited to get back out there.’

“I hope to pay a decent amount, maybe upper 20s, depends how I feel and how the game goes and what they team needs as well.

“I feel pretty good, but going to try not to overdo it as well and put myself in a good position moving forward.”

Despite having an injury-plagued season, Clark has been named as a captain for the WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis.

This decision was made because she was one of the two players to receive the most fan votes.
