AFTER nearly three decades, Gene Wojciechowski's time at ESPN has officially come to an end.
The iconic sport’s reporter waved an emotional goodbye to ESPN and College GameDay after 27 years.

Wojciechowski was initially laid off by the network during its downsizing back in 2023.
But the final day of May 2025, he announced his official departure on X.
Wojciechowski said in a touching statement: “After 27 1/2 yrs, my official last day on the ESPN books.
“Owe 1,000 thanks, but forever grateful to J Skipper, J Papanek, Steve Wulf, P Stiegman, Lee Fitting, Mike McQuade, D Kraft, Joe W.”
Following Wojciechowski's announcement, several of his peers paid tribute to the veteran reporter.
Michele Steele wrote: “What. A. Run. All the best, Gene!”
College GameDay host Rece Davis said: “Tremendous reporter. Brilliant writer and storyteller. Better man.
“Unsurpassed as a loyal friend. A legend in the business."
Wojciechowski was one of the faces of the network’s flagship GameDay program in recent years before 2023.
He joined ESPN back in 1998 after working for the Chicago Tribune, the Dallas Morning News, and the Los Angeles Times in a 44-year journalistic career.

A graduate of Tennessee, he returned to his alma mater in 2023 to join UT's College of Communication and Information faculty at the School of Journalism.
Wojciechowski has also co-authored autobiographies with several sports personalities.
