Joe Jonas Says He's Been 'Really Inspired' to Write New Music After Engagement to Sophie Turner

Tis the season to reflect back on the past year, and Joe Jonas likes what he sees. "Nick and I were sitting back at his Jumanji premiere just kind of laughing with each other because we're so happy," the DNCE frontman, 28, tells PEOPLE. "It's been such a good year for both of us. We're really looking forward to 2018." In 2017 alone, Jonas made Forbes's 30 Under 30 list, got engaged to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, collaborated with Nicki Minaj on DNCE's hit single "Kissing Strangers" and toured the world with his band. "We've been in more cities in this year that I've ever been in my life," says Jonas, fresh off opening for Bruno Mars on his South American tour. The former boy band member counts the new destinations among the reasons he's been inspired to write so many new songs recently. "It seems like any day off that I have in the last six or seven months, I've been in the studio," he reveals. "I've been really inspired currently and we've been developing a growth of sound for us. I would say for sure in the next six months you'll hear something new from us." "AAnytimewe get to be able to play a military show for the military families, we love the opportunity," Jonas, whose grandfather served in the military, declares. "It'll be special for us to do this really wonderful show and then have some time for a little R&R." The concert — which will also feature performers Thompson Square, Lauren Duski, Marine Matt Smith and Bobby "Blackhat" Walters — was originally scheduled for October, but moved back when the area got hit by tropical storm Nate. "Now it's becoming a holiday show, which makes it even more special," the Disney Channel alum says. "We'll definitely be doing one or two Christmas songs." While DNCE's lyrics can be considered racy for young fans, Jonas says the band will clean up their usual show slightly to make it more family friendly. However, "even the young kids, they love to rock out, so we don't censor too much," the "Cake By the Ocean" singer continues. "We're gonna have a few tricks up our sleeve. We always try to make sure each show is a little bit different from the last." Ultimately, Jonas wants to leave the military attendees and their families with an extra dose of holiday cheer. "We don't get to often show our gratitude for the military and their service and hopefully we just have a great holiday show so they can go home happy for Christmas," he concludes. "Given it's the holiday season, we want to make people have a great time."
