A BELOVED grocery chain is continuing to expand this year as rivals struggle.
The retailer is opening at least 30 more stores nationwide and has plans to continue the trend into 2026.
Ronald Sargent, interim CEO of Kroger, confirmed the details during an earnings call on Friday.
“Today, we are on track to complete 30 major storing projects in 2025,” Sargent told investors.
He added that “looking forward, we expect to accelerate new store openings in 2026 and beyond in high growth geographies, growing our overall square footage and adding new jobs.”
It’s not the first time that Sargent noted Kroger’s continued mission to offer customers more access to its brick-and-mortar locations.
In March, he mentioned on another call that “building out that footprint is an important piece of what we do,” and new stores would attract more shoppers and increase loyalty for the brand aside from just its e-commerce presence.
“Our most loyal and profitable customers are the ones that engage with us in both modalities, those that engage with us digitally and in stores,” the interim CEO noted.
“The two go hand in hand, digital and additional physical footprint…this is an opportunity to get back in there and build that out.”
During Friday’s earnings call, Sargent also noted that e-commerce sales for Kroger were up 15%.
