Bruce Willis Sells Rights To His ‘Digital Twin’

Actor Bruce Willis has sold the rights to his digital likeness to U.S. firm Deepcake according to The Telegraph. The deal allows the use of a ‘digital twin’ of Willis to be used in future screen projects. Using deepfake technology, the actor appeared in a phone advert without ever being on set after his face was digitally transplanted onto another performer. The tech also means stars from past eras can be brought back to life on screen. The technology has already been used in “Star Wars” spin-offs to recreate younger versions of actors, but those were on a case-by-case basis as opposed to the much larger overall deal with Willis. In a statement on his website, Willis says: “I liked the precision with which my character turned out. It’s a mini-movie in my usual action-comedy genre. For me, it is a great opportunity to go back in time. With the advent of modern technology, even when I was on another continent, I was able to communicate, work and participate in the filming. It’s a very new and interesting experience, and I thank our entire team.” The news comes as earlier this year it was announced that the 67-year-old Willis was ‘stepping away’ from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia which is impacting his cognitive abilities.
